Product Details

Rare and complete Victorian dinner service by the short-lived Staffordshire firm Gildea & Walker in the uncommon ‘Star’ pattern. Produced during the height of the Aesthetic Movement (c.1881–1885), this English ironstone transferware set is a true collector’s find.”The beautiful and rare “Star” pattern features intricate geometric and floral decoration, enriched with softly iridescent orange-brown lustre accents along the rims. The richly detailed design is both elegant and wonderfully ornamental, creating an impressive table setting with an unmistakable Victorian character.

The tureens stand elegantly on four decorative feet, giving them wonderful height and presence. The exceptionally large footed oval platter, measuring an impressive 21 inches, is particularly spectacular and features a deeper well, ideal for serving gravy or sauces.

This is an impressively complete and cohesive antique English service, offering a rare opportunity to acquire a substantial collection of Victorian tableware from the late 19th century.

A wonderful choice for the serious collector of English ironstone and antique transferware, or for anyone who appreciates the beauty and history of a truly magnificent historic table setting.

✨ CONDITION

For its remarkable age, this service is in beautiful overall condition.

No chips or repairs to the majority of the pieces.

One soup tureen has a minor hairline on the underside; it does not leak.

One salad plate has a glaze line underneath.

Some light, age-appropriate patina and minor manufacturing marks are present, as expected with antique earthenware.

One large footed platter has a small brown spot, shown in the photographs.

These minor signs of age are consistent with the history of antique earthenware and add to the authentic character and charm of this remarkable 19th-century collection.

Please examine all photographs and watch the video, as they form an important part of the description. I am always happy to provide additional photographs upon request.
